FAQ
What is a Solar Charger?
A solar charger is a device that converts solar energy into electricity that can be used to supply power to devices, or can be stored in batteries for later use. The term ‘solar charger’ generally refers to small portable devices that are used to power up personal electronic gadgets.
What is the Solmate Fusion?
A Solmate Fusion is a small charger with an integrated solar panel that enables charging from solar energy. The Solmate Fusion has two possible modes of charging – from the USB port of a computer and from sunlight. The Solmate Fusion charges its internal lithium ion battery, which can then charge a range of mobile devices. The Solmate Fusion also has an inbuilt flash memory chip that can be used as an external data storage device.
How does the flash memory of the Solmate Fusion work?
The flash memory on the Solmate Fusion works like a regular flash drive, or other external data storage drive. When the USB jack of the Solmate Fusion is connected to the USB port of a computer, it auto installs the drivers required. The memory can be accessed to store and transfer data.
Will the Solmate Fusion replace my regular charger?
The Solmate Fusion is not a replacement for your regular charger. It is a mini charger with backup power that will come in handy when you run out of charge, especially when you are outdoors and travelling.
How much charge will Solmate Fusion give to my device?
The Solmate Fusion’s internal Li-ion battery has a capacity of 600 mAh. What this means is that a fully charged Solmate Fusion can supply about two hours of talktime to a regular mobile phone, or about 13 hours of audio playback time to an mp3 player.
Can the Solmate Fusion be used only during daytime?
The Solmate Fusion can be used during any time of day or night. However, the solar charging function will work only when the device is exposed to sunlight.
Can the Solmate Fusion be used to charge my laptop?
Laptops require very heavy batteries to power them. The Solmate Fusion cannot be used to charge laptops, although Solmate is currently working to introduce solar laptop chargers to India.
Is my device compatible with the Solmate Fusion?
The Solmate Fusion is compatible with over 3000 devices. The standard adapter tips supplied with the Solmate Fusion enable compatibility with mobile devices of major brands in India. Other tips are available from our online store, as well as from popular electronics markets. The USB port on the Solmate Fusion can directly connect to your device if you have a USB charging cable for your USB charging enabled device. Most mobile devices today have USB charging functionality, and come with a manufacturer supplied charging cable.
I cannot find my device in the ‘Compatibility’ section of this website. Will it still be compatible with the Solmate Fusion?
There is a good chance that your device will be compatible with the Solmate Fusion even if it is not listed in the compatibility section of this website. There is a major ongoing initiative to harmonize chargers across mobile devices and platforms. The Micro USB is tipped to emerge as the universal charging/data transfer connector for mobile devices of the future. For more information on compatibility, please contact us.
Can I charge a device while simultaneously charging the Solmate Fusion?
You can use the Solmate Fusion to charge your mobile devices so long as there is charge remaining in its internal battery. If there is charge, then your device will be able to draw that charge even if the solar charging function or the USB charging function is engaged. However, please note that if the current being drawn is greater than the rate of charge, the battery on your Solmate Fusion will discharge at its normal rate.
